Modifying Exercise While Healing an Injury | Stay Motivated to Exercise Even During a Setback
by Coach Vickie Maris

I left the doctor’s office on Aug. 19th with my right foot in a walking boot designed to protect my aggravated tendon that was causing me quite a bit of pain. That put a damper on my daily exercise routine, but so had the ankle that was causing me to limp! So …  time to focus on healing.

We’re not really sure how the tendon became inflamed and sore, but we’re suspecting it was from a busy summer of working on the farm in the mornings and evenings, going up and down hills, while wearing a broken-down pair of old cross training shoes. Note to self:  Not a good idea!

It’s also possible that I moved too quickly from a low-impact fitness program to a higher-impact program. Or, it could be some combination of all of the above. But no matter the cause, I was ready to begin the healing process.

I didn’t want to lose my momentum in fitness and the routine of exercising on a daily basis. So I selected DVDs from several of the workout programs we already have in our home (TurboFire, Focus T25, Tai Cheng and Body Gospel) that focused on ab work and strengthening. I also did some of the cardio workouts, but modified the moves so as not to further injure my tendon in my ankle. The video tells the story from the farm setting of the south pasture. Enjoy!
